There is something freeing about realizing you do not have to have everything figured out before you come.
Come As You Are developed with that same kind of freedom.
I allowed the flowers to become large, loose, and imperfect—letting the brushstrokes remain visible and giving the painting permission to feel expressive rather than overly refined.
Oversized pink blooms rise from an olive-green vessel, surrounded by layers of sage, deep navy, blush, cream, and earthy greens.
There are drips. There are unexpected marks. There are places where one color runs into another and places where the history of the painting remains visible underneath.
And I love that.
Because somewhere in the process, this painting began reminding me of the way Jesus invites us to come to Him.
Not once we have cleaned everything up.
Not once we have become the version of ourselves we think we are supposed to be.
Not once we have figured out all the messy places.
Just come.
Come As You Are is a reminder that we are invited into the presence of Jesus exactly as we are—and it is there, in His presence, that He lovingly begins the work of transforming us.
We do not have to perfect ourselves before approaching Him.
We simply have to come.
