There's something paradoxical about valley seasons. We often think the mountaintops - those moments of achievement, physical health, or outward success - will finally bring the fulfillment we're seeking. But sometimes reaching that peak reveals an unexpected emptiness instead.

I discovered this truth during one of my darkest valleys, as my mom battled cancer in 2021 and 2022. I had finally reached a place of physical health that I thought would fix so many things. Yet standing on that "mountaintop," something felt hollow.

Then came the valley. As I walked alongside my mom's cancer journey and ultimately her passing in 2022, God began revealing precious treasures that could only be found in these deeper places. Like gold hidden beneath the surface, these valley discoveries transformed my entire life's trajectory.

Recently, while reading "Worthy" by Jamie Kern Lima, her words about reaching the pinnacle feeling empty resonated deeply with my experience. It reminded me of a profound truth God whispered to my heart: "Heal from the inside out."

You see, gold doesn't grow on trees - it's found buried in deep places. Similarly, blooms don't just appear overnight. They require nurturing soil, strong roots, and often, hidden seasons of growth. This truth inspired my newest piece, "Blooms in the Valley," which captures the unexpected beauty that emerges from our darkest seasons.

I share my full journey in my book "Blooming in the Shadows," but here's what I've learned about valley seasons:

  1. They reveal hidden treasures

  2. They build deeper roots

  3. They change our perspective

  4. They prepare us for authentic growth

  5. They connect us to God's heart

If you're in a valley season right now, don't rush to escape it. Instead, look for the hidden gold, the unexpected blooms, the treasures that can only be found in these deeper places. Sometimes our greatest transformation happens not on the mountaintop, but in the valley where God tenderly tends to our hearts.
